OVERVIEW
An overly large portion of this review may seem to be devoted to the minor negative issues I've uncovered. Don't let that detract from the fact that this case is, in most ways, a superior product. I've owned 4 different versions of AirPods and gone through multiple cases for each to find the best. This one by ESR is, so far, the best I've had for the AirPods Pro 3.

This case is sturdy, attractive, effective and a comparatively good value. I have great confidence that it will perform long and well as insurance that my Airpods Pro 3 are safe from spilling out on the ground should I occasionally chance to drop the case.

I'm a big fan of ESR. I have more ESR accessories than any other brand. The quality/price ratio of ESR products is hard to beat. That said, I often find at least one thing about a product that makes me wish I were on their Design/QA team.

OPERATION
In this case (pun?), the one design flaw coincides with one of its strongest features: The horizonal sliding case lock/unlock mechanism.

In principle, this style of latch mechanism solves a problem I've experienced in other similar cases. When the latch is set up to simply press on a hinged toggle, the case can easily open itself in a pocket. If you keep the case in a pocket as I do, pulling it out and finding it already open tends to defeat the purpose of the lock. For me, this has been a frequent issue in previous cases.
It has never been a problem with this ESR case.

Although the sliding lock solves one important use case, it presents a new problematic issue.
Because of where the slider is placed, it's very difficult to find a holding position that allows the thumb to slide the lock without having rest of my hand effectively block the lid from fully opening. For me, the natural holding position has my index finger running horizontally across the back of the case almost precisely along the lid hinge. Because of this, the magnet ejection often doesn't fully open the top. Instead, it will hover slightly open and then close again immediately after the lock slide is released.

This phenomenon also occurs if the case is held fully vertical rather than tipped back slightly. I'm assuming the repulsing magnets do not have quite enough strength to force the lid all the way open unless there is some level of backward angle. Otherwise, the weight of the lid is too much to overcome.
