Apple hasn't announced the iPhone 18 Pro Max yet, but leaks from multiple sources have been consistent enough that the picture is starting to come together. Based on what's surfaced, this is a genuine hardware update — not a case we're planning to cover by reshelling last year's mold.
The most case-relevant detail right now: the 18 Pro Max is widely reported to come in slightly thicker and heavier than the 17 Pro Max, with a revised camera system — a 48 MP triple-camera setup where the main lens is expected to have a variable aperture. A different aperture mechanism almost always means a different module footprint. Pair that with dimension changes and a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, and you've got a device that won't sit right in a 17 Pro Max case. Cutouts won't align. The fit won't be flush. That's not a minor issue.
ESR designs from confirmed measurements, not from repurposed tooling. For the 18 Pro Max, that means new molds built around what Apple ships — finalized once the official specs land in September.
What the rumors say
The 18 Pro Max is expected to carry a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with Ceramic Shield 2 and an improved anti-reflective coating. Under the hood, Apple's A20 Pro chip — built on a 2 nm process with a hexa-core CPU and 8-core GPU — is the widely cited expectation. MagSafe is expected to continue, reportedly at 25 W, alongside Qi2 and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2. Camera-side, the front shooter is rumored at 18 MP with 4K Dolby Vision video support. Connectivity reports point to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and expanded satellite features.
