Decent case.

This is a pretty well made phone case. I don’t usually like integrated stands on the backs of cases, but this one blends seamlessly to the camera ring and actually looks good. The hinges are stiff and it closes securely with a strong magnet. It won’t be opening on its own and will prop the phone up well. The leather feels like soft, like textured rubber and is smooth while still being grippy. It is described as “soft touch silicone leather” under the item title. Is that what “vegan leather” is? It doesn’t smell like leather, and it seems like it’s probably synthetic. The leather is just on the back of the case and it doesn’t wrap all the way around like on some other cases. On the sides are slightly textured TPU bumpers. The fit is perfect; nice and snug. I do wish there were metal buttons, but the TPU ones will suffice. The buttons are nice, clicky, and responsive. There is an actual touch-sensitive camera button nicely overlaid instead of just a cutout. The camera plateau isn’t covered but you can just get lens protectors that attach on each camera ring. They don’t interfere with the stand bezel.Overall, this case feels good in hand. Smooth yet grippy at the same time. It does pick up dust pretty easily, but I guess that’s to be expected because of the grippy-ness. Only time will tell how well the leather holds up after every day use. This is a nice alternative to the more expensive leather cases, but it won’t have that premium leather feel. Personally, I’d rather go with the more expensive leather cases that wrap all the way around, with something like crazy horse or calf leather, but I like premium cases no matter the cost. This case does have the stand built in and should suffice in minor drops. It is a good case and worth the price. Just depends what you’re looking for. Fit and function, or premium leather at a premium price.

Poor Grip and no Lens Area Cover

(FYI: The "Rating" field on ESR's "Customer Reviews" page does not work, so I was unable to select a rating; but I give this product 2 out of 5 stars.)

I purchased the ESR “Cloud Soft” version of this case for the iPhone 17 Pro last year, and I loved it. Besides the great built-in “Flex Stand,” it also had an attached plastic cutout that covered the lens area, to protect the phone surface in that area from scratches. However, the stickiness of the silicone case did make it hard to slide the phone in and out of pockets. So when ESR recently replaced their Cloud Soft cases with their new “Atelier” vegan leather cases, I was really excited to get one for my new iPhone 18 Pro, because I thought that it would slide in and out of pockets much easier. The Atelier cases are still silicone, but without the stickiness. (In the past, when I purchased genuine leather iPhone cases, they were the best of both worlds, because they slid in and of pockets with ease, while still maintaining enough grip, so that the iPhone would not slip out of your hand.)

Two Problems with the new ESR Atelier vegan leather case…
1) The new ESR vegan leather case does, indeed, slide in and out of pockets easier, but unfortunately, ESR went too far in the other direction; the new line of cases have no grip at all, and mine has completely slipped out of my hand on two occasions (with my new iPhone 18 Pro in it).
2) Also unfortunately, ESR decided to remove the lens area protector on the new Atelier cases, which was included on previous models. ESR states that the raised structure of the Flex Stand on the back of the Atelier case will protect the lens area… but that only provides protection if the phone is dropped on a smooth surface. Since the protective plastic camera cutout is missing on the new Atelier cases, the surface of the phone in that area is still vulnerable to scratches from gravel or asphalt surfaces, as well as loose items in a bag, such as keys or a pen. Instead of including the lens area protector as part of the case, ESR now offers the lens protector as a separate accessory for an additional $18.99, which is called the “ESR Armorite Pro Camera Lens Protector.” While the original built-in protector provided on ESR silicone cases had open holes for the lenses, the new lens protector accessory has an additional layer of glass over the existing lenses, which means that condensation can form between the glass and the lenses themselves, during temperature changes, affecting clarity.

Fortunately, Apple kept the exterior dimensions of the iPhone 18 Pro, identical to the iPhone 17 Pro; this means that last year’s ESR iPhone 17 Pro Cloud Soft Magnetic Case (silicone), with better grip and included lens area protection (and without problematic sealed lenses), will fit perfectly on the iPhone 18 Pro.

Comparison:
- ESR Atelier for iPhone 18 Pro Case (faux “vegan” leather): $42.99 + ESR Armorite Pro Camera Lens Protector: $18.99 = $61.98 total
- ESR iPhone 17 Pro Cloud Soft Magnetic Case (silicone): $26.99 total

Since the Cloud Soft case has better grip, has included (and better) lens area protection, and is $34.99 cheaper that the Atelier case combination mentioned above, I will be returning the Atelier case, and keeping the Cloud Soft case that I purchased last year for my iPhone 17 Pro. I highly recommend the older ESR Cloud Soft case over the new ESR Atelier vegan leather case, and I hope that ESR will consider bringing back the Cloud Soft line for future iPhones.
